Description for B&B:
In approximately 1850, Jules Romain Alexandre Cloud, a carpenter, purchased the dilapidated cider press located in the village of Saint-Siméon. He ingeniously constructed a cement spillway with vanes and a short canal to guide the water towards the wheel of his sawmill, which he positioned perpendicular to the cider press. The mill's structure is unique, crafted with twisted, vaulted, and knotty beams that he typically would not have used for his customers. It was only later that he added his own residence to the property. In 1955, an antique dealer and fresco teacher acquired the "Moulin de Mizande" estate. This new owner meticulously restored the circular trough, the wooden mechanism, the millstone of the crusher, and the large gear with its box-wood teeth. Additionally, he adorned the place with intricately carved wooden panels, alcoves, fireplaces, and staircases from the seventeenth century. The name "Moulin de Mizande" originates from the spring that emerges in the field, not far from the one created by Sanctus Simeon the Stylite, who struck the earth with his stick when he came to preach in Gaul during the fourth century.
During early April, the surroundings of Moulin de Mizande are adorned with a rare form of anemone (ranunculaides) that is no longer found elsewhere in the Ile de France. As a result, the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle has documented the plant life on this extraordinary site.
The present owner has made several improvements to Moulin de Mizande while upholding the original ambiance of the area. These enhancements include the construction of a parking lot, a garage, and a porch, as well as the restoration of the wheel and vanes, expansion of the stables, renovation of the house's attics, and enhancement of household comforts.
At Moulin de Mizande, we invite our guests to experience tranquility, leisure, and a warm welcome in the meticulously preserved environment of this truly remarkable place.
