Description for B&B:
Welcome to The House of Stone, a charming family home nestled in the heart of Auvergne. The owner's love for the area inspired him to share his experiences and the small pleasures of life here.Situated in Vernet Sainte Marguerite, a picturesque village perched over 1000 meters above sea level, this house is surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Monne river and the impressive slopes of Sancy, the southernmost volcano in the chain of Puys.
Perfect for hiking enthusiasts, this 3-star cottage is ideally positioned for exploring both the volcanic craters and the peaks of the Massif Central. The house features a traditional slate roof, creating a cozy atmosphere with its raw wood decor and antique items such as old boxing gloves and vintage transistor horns.
While offering modern comforts like a pellet stove and a hidden TV screen, the house also retains its rustic charm. The kitchen, although not equipped with a dishwasher, has an open counter that connects to the dining room.
Enjoy breakfast on the deck or balcony, taking in the peaceful surroundings of Vernet Sainte Marguerite. From here, you can admire the village church, the soldiers' monument, the town hall, and the fountain and wash house, where you might even catch a glimpse of locals going about their daily tasks.
Upstairs, a wooden staircase leads to the attic where you'll find two bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. The bathroom and toilet are conveniently located on the ground floor.
The House of Stone is perfectly situated between Lake Chambon and Lake Aydat, offering easy access to the Nordic areas of Pessade and Beaune le Froid, as well as the stunning peaks of Puy Balladou and the Monne gorges. Whether you visit in summer or winter, this cozy retreat is the perfect place to experience the beauty of Auvergne.
Description for Gite
This beautiful house with a slate roof is the perfect place to unwind in an atmosphere of "raw wood and animal skins" surrounded by antique decor. The owner has carefully curated a collection of items including old boxing gloves, squash racquets, and vintage transistor radios that hang like trophies. While the house offers modern comforts, they are discreetly integrated into the space. For example, a pellet stove is tucked away between the hutch and buffet, and the TV screen is hidden in a cabinet, reminiscent of a time when televisions were a luxury. The kitchen, although charming with its open counter to the dining room, does not yet have a dishwasher.A wooden staircase leads to the attic, where the sleeping area is located with two bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. The bathroom and toilet are also situated on this floor.
To enjoy the sun, you can have breakfast on one side of the deck and enjoy the view from the balcony, which overlooks the quaint and rural heritage of Vernet Sainte Marguerite. From here, you can take in the sights of the village church, the square with its monument to the soldiers of both World Wars, the town hall, the fountain, and the washhouse (where you may still catch a glimpse of women doing laundry). In the distance, you can admire the puy Allou.
