Description for B&B:
Before 1872, the location of this house was occupied by the gardens of a Benedictine women's abbey called "The St Laurent Convent" (now the Abbey Residences apartments). The house is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the Bourges Cathedral.During the revolution, the grounds were sold and Mr. Alphonse-Joseph Charmeil, an art teacher at the Royal Middle School of Bourges and founder of the Bourges Museum, which he served as the curator for nearly 50 years, constructed this unique house in the style of Napoleon III. In 1878, he added a pavilion and two detached houses in the garden, adorned with marble decorations.
Originally, the marble decorations were part of the choir tour of the St Pierre Le Marché church, built in 1760 (now known as the Notre-Dame church). These original decorations still remain intact and are officially registered.
