Dar Al Bahar, the house by the sea, is aptly named for its idyllic location on the ramparts of Essaouira in the "San Dion" area. Situated facing the ocean and its invigorating trade winds, this charming abode offers a captivating view from its terrace. Witness the ceaseless motion as the winds collide with the coastal rocks, providing a mesmerizing spectacle. The terrace also grants a panoramic vista of the medina, encompassing the ancient Scala fort and the Mellah, once the Jewish quarter. The sandy dunes, stretching to the city's northern outskirts, create a captivating backdrop. Originally constructed at the turn of the previous century, Jean-Claude and Lise, a French-Dutch couple, have lovingly restored this historical dwelling. In the past, this vibrant area of Essaouira thrived with the presence of an authentic windmill, now in ruins, which once supplied flour to the city and its surroundings. The street that bears the name Touahen, meaning mill in Arabic, serves as a reminder of this bygone era. Today, tranquility reigns in this haven, undisturbed save for the crashing waves and the cries of seagulls.
