Description for Gite
Welcome to the stunning valley of Munster! Located in the southernmost part of the Vosgean solid mass, this valley is known for its production of delicious cheese and is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant and captivating areas in the Vosges region. With its high-altitude pastures, enchanting fir forests, and tranquil villages, the valley of Munster is an idyllic destination for summer excursions and winter skiing. The main hub of the valley, Munster, is a delight for cheese enthusiasts as it lends its name to the famous Munster cheese. As you venture further into the western part of the valley, you will discover even more untouched and picturesque landscapes. Charming villages with half-timbered houses, such as Mittlach, Metzeral, and Muhlbach, dot the slopes, offering a glimpse into traditional rural life.
To truly immerse yourself in the local culture, don't miss the opportunity to indulge in a traditional meal called "marcaire" at one of the mountain farm inns. This hearty mountain feast, of course, pays homage to the renowned Munster cheese. During the summer months, the region's beloved blueberry tart is a highly appreciated dessert.
When the weather is pleasant, the valley offers endless possibilities for exploration. The famous GR5 hiking trail partially passes through the valley, allowing avid hikers to embark on unforgettable journeys. In winter, the valley transforms into a winter wonderland, perfect for both alpine and cross-country skiing.
Come and experience the beauty and charm of the valley of Munster. Whether you're a nature lover, a cheese connoisseur, or an adventure seeker, this enchanting destination has something for everyone.
